From the toddler-friendly shallows of the Crooked River mouth to the gentle waves of the beach, there’s no wonder it is frequently home to surf lessons, snorkelers, swimmers and windsurfers. Werri Beach and Point, Gerringong

With a lagoon at the northern end and an ocean pool at the southern end, Werri Beach is the perfect place to spend a day. Distinguished by consistent surf breaks at both ends of the beach, there’s often a nice wave peeling off one of the headlands. Smooth even when the summer nor’easter is blowing, the south point starts to break across the rocky reef that extends from the headland, then generates a fatter wave closer to shore that’s beloved by long-boarders. Beach breaks to the south are dependent on variable sandbanks, but there’s often a decent wave right in front of the famous Werri Beach Fish Shop three-quarters of the way down the beach.

Callala Beach

Callala Beach is the longest beach in Jervis Bay and is a great place to swim, beach walk or run. Parts of the beach back onto Callala Beach and Myloa township, while other parts back onto untouched bushland. You can catch the Husky Ferry from Myola at the southern end of the beach across to Huskisson. At the northern end of the beach is a reserve and a small creek inlet behind a rocky reef which provides sheltered swimming at high tide.

Greenfield Beach

Set amongst the picturesque setting of the Jervis Bay National Park, Greenfield Beach offers much more than crystal clear waters and soft white sands. It grassy foreshore and surrounding walking tracks are the perfect location for a beach side barbecue, bird watching and spotting white bellied sea eagles and dolphins. It’s named after Colin Greenfield who lived in the area from 1942 until the 1970s, lucky fellow! The picnic area has free electric barbecue, clean drinking water, cold showers, flush toilets, sheltered eating areas, and wheelchair access. Take a walk along one of the two walking tracks and discover an abundance of wildlife. This family friendly beach is the perfect location to explore for the day and is part of the Jervis Bay Marine Park.

You can access Abrahams Bosom Beach by walking from the Abrahams Bosom car park on Beecroft Parade. This beach is popular with families and is often protected from the wind. The beach is also positioned at the mouth of Abrahams Bosom Creek and is the start of the beautiful and diverse Wreck Walk and Coomies Walking track.

Known as the jewel in the Booderee National Park, Murrays Beach offers swimmers and snorkelers alike, pristine clear waters and pearly white sand. Perfect for families, Murrays Beach is situated in a protected bay which is sheltered by Bowen Island. Accessed via Jervis Bay Road through Booderee National Park, there are many self-guided walks around Murrays Beach from which to explore. From the Munyunga waraga dhugan (loop walk) to the various low tide walks, you are sure to leave with breathtaking views and sightings of Booderee’s plants, animals, culture and history. Car parking is in a large car park with a short walk to the beach via a bush track. Entry fees apply to all areas of Booderee National Park.

Nelsons Beach

Nelson is one of the quieter beaches in Jervis Bay’s White Sands Coast. It has spectacular white sand and often has enough room to spread out with the family, as well as gentle waves for swimming and paddling. The beach runs from Plantation Point reserve in the north to Blenheim Beach in the south. Walkers can head north to Huskisson on the Round the Bay Walk, a wide, sealed, shared pathway, or continue south to Greenfield and Jervis Bay National Park on the White Sands Walk. Plantation Point has excellent barbecues, picnic tables, children’s playground, fitness equipment and grassy lawns perfect for a relaxing picnic or rest on your walk.

Pigeon House Mountain

Pigeon House Mountain Didthul walking track is one of the best walks in Morton National Park and on the south coast. The walk is in the park’s southern section. The walk is pretty steep in parts, but terrific views make it worthwhile. You’ll hike through forest, heathland and age-old sandstone before coming to the best part – negotiating a series of ladders that lead you to the summit and the view. Take in the captivating sight of cliffs and gorges within the Budawang Wilderness, all carved by the Clyde River. On clear days, you may be able to see as far as Jervis Bay and Bermagui. You might even spot a lyrebird along the final portion of the track, where you can also check out rare Pigeon House Ash eucalypts. Enjoy some lunch at the top of the mountain, or head back down to the picnic area at the start of the walk for a well-deserved lunch.

Belmore Falls walking track near Kangaroo Valley offers no shortage of lookouts and sensational southern highland, waterfall and sandstone flora views. The walk starts at the Hindmarsh lookout carpark, with a magnificent view of Kangaroo Valley.
